Idling around 1900 rpms.. How do I adjust? Johnson 225 Ocean Runner

Fixed most of my issues thanks to your help but have one more problem, before the next one. I am Idling (out of water with earmuffs) around 1900-2000 rpm. How do I adjust the idle so I am not slamming gears when I shift into forward or reverse? What would the ideal idle speed be??

Also I ran a compression test and results were:
1 - 88
2 - 89
3 - 84
4 - 87
5 - 87
6 - 89

I assume that's pretty darn good??

Rented a fuel pressure tester but I couldn't figure out which hose to use, most I could get was 3psi.. Tried the hose to the fuel rail and the one to the bottom of the block, neither really gave me much reading..

The first thing you'll have to do is put the mtr in the water to get exhaust back pressure. They idle very high on a flusher. Sync & linc procedures are in the OEM factory service manual.

and the fuel pressure you can test on the cap at the choke

Thanks Boobie... Figured that it needed to dip it's toes in the water.. What RPM am I looking for in water? Do you know which line I should be using to test fuel pressure to make sure that the fuel pump is doing it's job correctly? The motor runs fine so I assume it's OK but would like to know for sure while I have the fuel pressure tester..

you looking at 600 to 700 rpm
