1996 130hp evinrude stalls when put into drive or reverse

I have a 1996 130 hp evinrude. The motor will start fine and idle good. But when put into drive or reverse the motor quits (like you shut the key off ) . About one every ten times it will go into drive, then runs good and gets up fine and goes . Have put new plugs in , change the fuel filter, run dry gas all the time and have tried sea foam. COuld it be a fuel leak and allowing air in ? Could it be ignition module ANY HELP ? ?

You will need to do the basics. Compression check, what are the numbers? Spark test on every plug wire, is it hot a snappy? and then fuel, Is the motor getting sufficient fuel? Fog the carb/s with fuel/oil mix and see if it makes a difference. Does it? Carb/s will need to be overhauled! Good luck and post results!

Get an OEM factory service manual after you do the basics and do a good sync & linc on it.
