This might be a silly question considering I am inquiring about an engine that is 23 years old. The engine runs great, lots of power, idles fine...however, when I start it, an unbelievably large cloud of smoke comes out of the exhaust.
The VRO has been disconnected. I used to use pre-mix, but that is no longer available where I boat, so now I add a quart of TCW3 for each 12 gallons of gas. It smoked just as much when I used the pre-mix as it does now.
Any suggestions on how I can reduce the smoke? Can I use a little less oil say a quart for every 14 gallons instead of every 12 gallons without damaging the engine?
It is very annoying to boaters nearby when I start the engine and they become engulfed in a cloud of smoke. Thanks for any suggestions.
