1985 Evinrude 140 looper- takes over a minute to reach WOT

Getting spark to all cylinders.
Compression excellent all cylinders.
New power pack and rectifier installed last year.
So here is the deal- when I open her up she goes nowhere
for at least a minute. Definitely struggling to pick up speed.
When she finally planes, the tac is only reading 4200 rpms.
This engine should be running approx. 5700 rpms WOT
Nowhere near the speed and power she usually runs at.
When testing at dock - dies out on 3 of 4 cylinders when I spray starting fluid in carbs- BUT
if I am running her at WOT on the water and push in choke, she starts to die which
usually signifies it isn't a carb problem.
Idles great and runs smooth at low speeds.
Any ideas what is wrong????????

Did it ever run 57-5800 RPM?

Carbs, fuel pump, maybe the throttles are not opening wide open, blockage in the fuel line???? Could be many things and you will have to start to trace.

try pumping the bulb when WOT to see if its a pump/filter issue. Try an external tank to see if its bad fuel or crud in the tank. I would take the carbs apart to inspect at the very least. What color are the gaskets in the carbs? You might want to get rebuild kits bc the original seals are known to tear. good luck!!

Check the spark on that cylinder. If it has good spark, then that carb may be clogged. If no spark, then try swapping coils with a good cylinder.
