Hondarider188, do you have a pic? If the woodruff key is supposed to look like a half circle. If it's sheared and flush with the tapered crankshaft, then you absolutely must replace it.

i dont have a pic. and i havnt taken anything apart yet again since i replaced the ignition system. because i was going to wait until i got the boat all finished and painted and once i get that done i have a two week cure time so i will have plenty of time to do it. then it is sheared pretty good, so there is only a small sliver that the f/w still catches on.

You may use any key that fits.
The key is not what holds the flywheel, that is the friction between the tapered part of the crank-shaft and flywheel.
The key is only for alignment of the flywheel to the crank shaft and thus timing.
Be sure that the surface is as smooth as possible, and clean off the crankshaft and flywheel with acetone/thinner.
The most important is clean tapers and correct torque!!

k thanks for the help i hope to get it done soon and i have a new omc key so it is the exact fit.
