1955 7.5 evinrude prop

I changed To a Lower unit off 1958 CD 15 it fit good only problem is prop will not go on far enough to get drive pin in? It looks like CD15 has less shaft available because of
A extra piece??

is there that much difference in pitch that the cd 15 prop wouldnt work ok?

There was a change to the gearcase in 1956. You will need a 1956-58 7.5 hp prop. The 5.5 hp prop will over rev the engine.
