1993 Evinrude cable questios

Hi Everybody,

Just registered and love the site.

Heres my dilemma.

I bought a used 1993 Evinrude 115 Tracker. The guy I bought it from did not have the cables hooked up and the engine ran great. When I got it home, I mounted the engine on my boat, hooked up the throttle and shifter calbes and noticed that going into reverse is easy, but going forward is REALLY difficult. I have to use two hands to shift it forward. I took off the reverse/shifter cable and when I pushed the control forward, it was super easy. I then put the reverse/shifter cable back on and once again t was so hard to shift into forward. Can someone please help me out?

you might need to replace your shift cable...

Disconnect the shift cable at the motor. See if you can shift it manually. If it will shift, the cable is possibly bad. If it won't ,the problem is in the motor.

when i tak off the reverse cable it works fine. why?
