Need some help here guys. I'm an electrical engineer and I work in the outboard industry and it still has me stumped. A buddy is just getting his first boat in the water, and having trouble. The motor ran fine for a few hours, then suddenly started blowing the main fuse. I measure 6.2 ohms from the purple wire to ground, with the fuse out. Theoretically, this should draw a little under 2 amps when the fuse is in, since purple is the switched return line from the ignition switch. However, when I put an ammeter in the circuit, it shows over 20 amps. The battery was hooked up in reverse for a short time(not by me), weeks ago, but it ran OK after that. Shifted fine, ran well, etc. Total measured draw when jumping batt to purple wire was 2 amps, in support of my math above. I know there's a diode in the remote, could that be a problem? Also measured 4 amps jumping batt to starter solenoid, and it cranked fine. Any help would be welcome.

Thanks.
