fuel oil mix instead of starting fluid

I read on here that starting fluid is bad for outboard engines.

I have a 1979 Johnson 140 hp SeaHorse.
Just wanted to have my facts straight before I do it..
The idea is to put gas/oil mix in a spray bottle &
spray into the air intake just like starting fluid?

Anything else I should be aware of?

I'm trouble shooting what I think is a carb problem.. so here I go.

Starting fluid doesn't lubricate that is why you use pre-mix in a spray bottle.
