I have a tachometer problem with a Evinrude 90 SPL (1997) in that everything seems to work fine and then the tach will just drop out and go to zero. After a short period of time or slowdown the tach will return to normal?
Voltage remains at 14v or better the entire time? In fact seems to be overcharging but think that is nature of this beast without regulator. Tried checking all resistances as outlined in service manual for stator and diode and all check out fine.
There is no regulator only a diode on this system.
I tried checking voltage output when tach stopped working at the terminal strip and the yellow and grey lead had no voltage. Stranger yet, when connecting a 12v test light between ground and hot leg (yellow only) to see if there is voltage tach returns to normal and then stops when test light removed. It seems like a grounding issue but the charging voltage remains constant. Tach test proved tach is ok.
Any ideas???
