Good Day,
just picked up a1987 - 19' Edson with a 120HP Johnson also 1987. The previous owner had it for 14 years and didn't need to do anything except maintenance (plugs, lube, gearcase oil).
Now we test drove it and it seemed smokier than it should have been. This is my newest outboard... EVER. my last was a 1977 140HP, before that 1976, anyway i am looking forward to not mixing oil and gas. so i want to give the VRO a try. but i don't want to cause any damage. i looked in my Clymer manual and can't find any info on the VRO, it's kinda weird, so i will probably purchase a service manual (anyone know the isbn#)
so here is my question:
1) should i replace the VRO just to be safe?
2) how can i test the existing VRO?
or any other thoughts?
Once i get the service manual i will get a better idea on how to test / tune the new one (i hope)
Cheers
