Recirc check valves 1987 evinrude v4 vro

Does anyone know what direction the flow is for these valve. I have pulled one of the hose off at the cylinder and I can suck fuel toward the cylinder but cant blow toward intake. Is this the right direction. I was under the impression it should flow toward the intake to remove excess fuel from cyliders

The flow is from the large threaded end out thru the barbed end. A slight flow in the opposite direction indicates a flawed valve.
