I pinched the wire to the shifter solenoids when changing water pump. Now reverse gear not working. My question is can this wire be changed to any wire as long as waterproof connections are made? I looked up the part and it is obsolete and expensive for a wire. Or do you recommend I search harder to find the OEM part?

You might find the wiring at a place that has used outboard parts, but you can pretty much forget finding it new. My best suggestion is to fix it anyway you can, as long as it is sealed.

If it's in a place where it can be repaired without affecting any opertion of the g/c, use a heat shrink butt connector and some heat shrink tube on top of that. Then paint it with liquid tape.
