May upgrade boat and would need a motor. Nothing expensive and I like the ease of maintenance on the old 2 strokes. Anybody have any fuel burn numbers of a 150-175 on a 20-21 foot center console. How many gallons per hour at 4000-5000 rpm. I know every boat will produce different number but do these motors burn gobs of fuel or are they about average for carbed two strokes? Any other choices in the older models?

10% of rated HP for fuel consumption on any carbed two stroke. That means 15 - 17 g/hr. Even the EFI/DFI engines fall into the same range so newer isn't necessarily more economical at WOT. Some advantage in the lower RPM ranges.

10% is rated at WOT...if you pull it back to 4000-5000 you should find a sweet spot that will do significantly better.

Those late 90s 60* V6 motors run great and have good power. They do suck some fuel however. My 21 footer with a 150HP oceanrunner will get between 2-4MPG, depending on speed, load and water.

I get about 10 GPH out of my Grady Tournament 19 while cruising in the sweet spot at 4200 RPM, weighs in at about 3300lb with a moderate to deep v-hull.

I took my '94 J150 out for a test run , had a 6 gal tank that wasn't full, maybe 4-5 gals, we were out 45 minutes running it around, only rarely going to WOT for testing, mostly puttering around at 1/2. Probably went a mile or two, seems to fit with everyone elses numbers.
