Evinrude junior recoil

Hi guys the recoil on my 1990 evinrude junior is having issues i have put the spring in and the rope all under tension but when i do the nut up ontop( which is just a bolt someone put it) tight i pull the rope out but it doesnt go back in. If its loose the spring jumps out :s any ideas?

There really isn't much to say, except if it has the correct parts and is assembled correctly, it will work.

It may be worth investing in a manual. You can see the assembly and parts on boats.net. Just plug in your motor numbers.
