I just recently came across an old Evinrude outboard motor from friend of mine. It appears to be a 40's 50's motor 4hp??... Its a twin cyl. engine with dual plugs on each cyl. I am not too familiar with these older engines and was wondering if anyone could help me find out the year and some info on this motor. Or point me in a direction where i could find something out. The stampings on the motor are 4404-22101. Thanks for any and\or all help!

That's a 4 cylinder Zephyr. Its not a twin with dual plugs. Very fussy carb.

4404 Zephyrs were built from 1946 - 1948. What you have there is infact a 4 cylinder motor. Some publications will say it's a 5.4hp and some will say it's a 5.7hp. I guess it depends on who writes it. The carbs are a bit fussy, but they do run pretty good, once they're set right. The smaller knob is the low speed and the bigger one is the high speed. You want to make sure the ignition system is up to parr before you fight with the carb.

You can get a service manual for these things at the Ken Cook company.
