I have a 17.6 hp 1941 evinrude 4 cyl. It came without spark plugs. the plugs screw into the side of the the cylinder so they will need to be the right ones or the pistons will be damaged. i have looked that engine up and the chart said m5 spark plug but not the brand. I have looked at champion and no m5 plug.
Could someone help me out with this one?

Oh cool. the 17mm thread. The D9 was used in quite a few different motors of the era.

Thanks Guys, this thing was beginning to be a pain. one more question. If this motor has 2 coils and 2 sets of points, isn't this 4 cyl. actually a 2 cyl?

On those horizontally apposed fours, one coil and set of points will fire two cylinders simultaneously. Typically, the top two cylinders fire at the same time, then the bottom two. The apposed twins will typically have one coil and fire simultaneously. The inline type outboards are typically alternate firing.
