Painting a Johnson to look like an Evinrude, or vice versa

Just curious to see if anyone has ever done this.

I am rebuilding an older 6 HP Johnson, that will be used on my inflatable boat. It was a random thought that I had considering that nearly every OMC engine was identical except for the paint and decals. Was thinking that Evinrude blue would match my boat better (it's blue) than Johnson green (the motor is a 72).

Like I said, I'm just curious to see if anyone has ever done this. My engine is getting a repaint in any case while I have it torn down, much easier to paint the parts that way. :)

Heck, paint that bad boy any color you want! Just don't paint over the ID tag.

The ID tag is already screwed up. Some previous owner must have had the transom clamps corrode and lock up, so they changed them from a donor motor and never switched the tags.

Based on the current tag I have a 77 6HP short shaft.
In reality, I have a 72 6HP long shaft (which I am converting to short shaft)

In any event I have to figure a way to make a new tag.
