model 40EL 73D

I was able to get this 40hp motor for a great deal. Its a pull start.
I currently have a 1973 25hp tiller. And its on its last legs.

Id perfer getting a tiller kit for the 40hp and having two operational motors, however
Would i be able to use the 25hp tiller as a parts doner to make my 40hp a tiller? Do they evan MAKE a tiller kit compatible?

This does NOT need to be a perfect swap no matter what route i go.

Can i purchase a tiller handle off ebay that would bolt up, and at least have the throttle on the tiller handle? I can get by rigging the shifting up if i have to. Just looking for a rock solid way of rigging this motor. It's for duck hunting and needs no visual appeal.

Does anyone have any experience. The only thing i really dont wanna do is a big brass pipe with remote controls on the other side of the seat. Now that would be RIGGN!

THanks Justin!

been there done that. Motors are totally different.

I started out with a 72 25hp tiller and moved to a 76 40hp (remote control). The motor style has been

I obtained the 40hp tiller handle from ebay and made my own wire harness to a start and stop switch I had mounted on plate on the front of the motor.

The tiller for your motor was made from about 1955 up into the 1970's. Used on 30,35,40,50,60,75hp motors and more. Look for the one with a single bolt holding it on. You will also need the shaft & gear that goes through the steering bracket to replace the emergency throttle lever presently on the motor.

The urgency for the tiller handle just went up a notch. I ruined something on my 25HP this AM.

So im looking all over the place for the tiller handle that fits the 40hp above.
Does anyone know of a spot that might have such a thing.

It is the same model as above.

budsbud66@live.com thanks.
