1988 28 HP Johnson won't run wide open.

This weekend I went out in my boat, first time since 1st week in August. Motor idels rough and won't run wide open unless I put a couple fingers in front of carb opening. Could this be a problem with the fuel pump?

the carb needs to be cleaned.

agree. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=244013 it has sat 2 months with fuel evaporating in the carbs. clogged high speed jet.

Thanks for your help! It looks like a big job to remove the carb, as 1 of the nuts is blocked by the starter. Looks like alot of work to remove the starter.

You have to remove the complete starter bracket with starter attached!!
