1966 Johnson 20hp prop seal Q & a special thanks

I have a 1966 Johnson 20hp motor.
I just got done putting new seals in the LU, adding a new water pump, and replacing the shifting fork.
One thing that I noticed upon startup is that there was a very slight rub between the prop shaft & the seal.
I thought this would probably be OK, after a little break-in/use. However...I was incorrect.
My shaft shows no visible signs of damage, but after an hour on the water, the prop shaft seal has started leaking gear lube.
It looks as if the right-hand side of the seal is slightly worn, around the shaft.
Has anyone else seen this happen?
Is there a way to keep this from happening?
I have an extra seal, if replacement is necessary.
I just don't want to replace another seal until I know the cause or can figure out a remedy.
The leak is very small/slow, so I can limp it on the current seal for the time being.

Thanks to all who have helped me bring this motor back to life!
I greatly enjoyed my time on the water, Saturday.

Sounds as if the shaft has an ever so slight bend, pull it apart and check it, if it is pooched I have a spare one from a 69. Chuck it in a drill and check, if not a machine shop can check it with the proper equipment. Or maybe isn't not bent and it just didn't go in straight.
