I just got a Johnson Colt. It needs some work on it, but i haven't found any model number or serial number on it. It does say "Mate" on the front of the engine and on the fuel tank, if that provides a clue.
How do I determine the age?
Thanks

Upon looking closer, it appears that there are two tiny nuts on the base of the motor that look like they probably held a small plate at one time. If that is the case, how would i age this motor without that?

Look on the engine..there should be a nickle sized disk..called a welch plug..it is a silver color...it may have both the model and serial number on it....they are usally near the cylinder area...by coils or on top

There are a couple of numbers on the welch plug.
2102 A
E02155

Can the age be determined by one of these numbers?

Thanks for the help after searching around, it looks like the "2102 A" number on the welch plate refers to a 1973 model.
