Ammeter = OVERKILL ???

Was going to install one on my 17' Whaler w/'87 90HP Evinrude but am being led to believe it is a hassle and unnecessary.

Just install a volt gauge. Very simple to do and it will tell you if your system is charging.

Problem with an ammeter is you have to run the charging circuit all the way up to it and back to the battery. Extra wires, usually exposed, and potential trouble. A voltmeter carries no current, so just light wires to connect it to the ignition switch and ground is all that is necessary.
