I broke off one of the (4) bolts on the water pump housing on a Johnson 15hp LU. There is about 1/4" of stud exposed. Whats the best way to remove the broke bolt? Thanks

Heat the remaining bolt with a propane torch - do it several time and let it cool. Vise-grips will then remove it.

Saturate the protruding stud with break away or tread cutting oil. Penetrating oil of any kind will help. GOOD LUCK. These can be very difficult (just broke off a thermostat housing bold myself)

Oil won't cut it. Heat, as pointed out, is the trick.

Heat as ezeke recommends. Then remove the heat and spray with penetrating oil. As the bolt cools it should suck some oil in.

You'll probably have to drill and tap to the next size, steel in aluminum is a PITA to get out.

Whatever you do, DO NOT USE AN E-Z-OUT. Nothing easy about them!!
