Torque Specs for a 1982 Evinrude 140 hp

Can anyone help me. Lets see, I'm Very Very new to boating. I bought a 1987 Ranger with a 1982 Evinrude 140 hp motor on the boat. The guy i bought it from told that the VRO was working. So i took his word (wrong), I took the boat out and filled it with 93 (super) octane, i ran the boat about 5 miles down the river, No power the boat would go fine in reverse and netural, but would only go about 5 mph in forward, i did a spark test and a comp. test. 2 of my 4 cylinders are only showing 10 and 30 psi, i took the heads off and saw some damage to the piston and head, i have all the parts on order to a overhall, im good on motors. Can anyone help me with the torque specs for the rods and head, well the whole power head unit. Any help would be great!!!!!!!!

While you are waiting for parts, you need to get an OEM manual for your engine. It will have all the specs and procedures you are going to need to repair your engine.

Ok, Thanks for the fast replay, I bought a cheap service manual from the web, but it covers alot of engines, i will try to find another one on line that is alittle bit better. I dont know where to go to get the orginal owners manual.

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hopefully to be able to have this motor up and running in a week or 2. I might have a problem trying to find somebody to bore and hone my cylinders. Thats something i can not do my self.

The block was in use from 1979 through 1998 with very little change. They are very well tested. After 1984 the 140 basically becomes the 115 because of changes in the rating system.

If the rest of the motor is in good shape, it's worth the rebuild expense.
