I have a 2000 175 hp Ficht. This past weekend I had the fuel pressure valve blow out and had gas squirting all over - very lucky I did not have a fire. Was able to plug it and get back to the landing. Talked with a local mechanic and he says I need to replace the whole manifold. This is the 4th one he has seen this summer. My question is why can't I just replace the T where the valve is with a single high pressure fuel line and leave out the valve. The manifold is going to cost about $400 to replace. It sounds like they will test the fuel pressure in a different place now anyway???

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Re: 175 hp Evinrude FICHT fuel pressure valve blew

pretty common problem now days as these motors age and the rubber goes hard and all sorts of fuel additives start reacting with old rubber/plastics, I guess it is possible to do a patch up repair, but because of the nature of the part involved (high pressure fuel) I reckon pay the price, fix it properly and be done with it for another 10 or 15 years.
