Here's a puzzle; started my motor yesterday and the tach seemed to read LOW. The week previously I was seeing correct indications but now it reads between 1200 and 1500 at the speed I would normally see about 4000. I checked all connections and grounds and the seem ok. The engine is running perfectly and seems totally unfazed by the indication. Now, I did try checking with voltmeter at the maplight socket and it seems like I'm not getting any charge. 12.99V with engine off, 12.99 with engine at about 1800 rpm in "cold start" mode in neutral. Have I popped the rectifier or has the tach packed up and gone home? If I understand how the tach works, it seems like if I lost ONE diode it would reduce the number of poles sending out a signal. Is that accurate? I plan to do a rectifier check tonite, (the green head flies were raising hell last night, so I gave up)
