johnson 1986 175 hp ignition

Hi there,

Does anyone know if the johnson ignition systems are interchangeable?
i.e, can i take the power pack, stator and timing base from a 1989 johnson 175hp engine and use them on my 1986 johnson 175hp engine? will this do any harm???

Also does anyone know how to troubleshoot the power packs for a johnson 1986 175hp?

Any help or thoughts will be greatly appriciated.

You can go to Crowley marine and log in the engine information, then you can write down numbers off the two years your looking at. I believe that the years from 88-92 are the same, so not sure about the 86.
