Hello! How can I tell if my outboard is a 85, 115, or 135 1975 evinrude? There are no identifying plates or stickers.

Thanks!

There is a round casting plug on the top of the top cylinder. About the size of a quarter. Probably painted over, but it will have the model and serial number stamped on it. It will tell you all you need to know.

The 85HP has a 3-3/8" bore; the 115HP and 135HP had a 3.5" bore.

The 85HP and the 115HP had flatback exhausts; the 135HP had a bubbleback exhaust.

All of the 1975 V4 motors had a nickel sized welch plug on the top of the port cylinder bank with serial numbers and usually model numbers as well.

This is what the casting plug should look like. It's for a 135 hp 1975 engine.
