Hi, this is my first post. I just aquired a model 3012 Evinrude 3 HP twin ( 1952-1954 circa ) from my late father and am planning on fixing it up and running it on my 15 foot Grumman canoe. It seems to be in good shape, but I have a question on the fuel/gas mix. The manual says to mix 8 ounces of oil to one gallon of gas. No problem, just wondering though. That seems like a large amount of oil compared to my other modern two-cycle engines. Is it possible that todays oils are better and I might be able to mix LESS oil than the 1952 manual says. I thank you in advance for any advice.
