I just acquired an old Evinrude Sportsman outboard, that I plan to use if there are no major problems. I haven't tried to start it yet. I'm cleaning it up. I need to know the year it was made and the horsepower to begin. I think it may be 1.5 h.p. made in 1951. The model/serial # is 4425-05140 can anyone assist in verifying h.p and year of manufacture? Thanks,

Re: old evinrude sportsman need info

Excellent old motors. I had a 1937 and a 1946 in the past and they appear to be co-operative running motors. They started out as a 1.5hp in 1936 and managed to get bumped up to 1.6hp them up to 2hp then back down to 1.5hp again. LOL A good place to get parts for those, would be Engine Blade and Prop. I bought a set of rings for my '37 model. Sea-Way might have some things as well. Good restoration project you have here.
