I had my '84 60 horse on muffs after 1.5 years of not getting used. I had removed the lu and replaced some seals and made sure shift rod length was correct and re-installed lu. Again on muffs, when shifting into both forward and reverse, theres some chatter before fulling engaging. I haven't tried adjusting anything yet, just looking for possibilities. Something tells me if I tried adjusting the black thumb screw it will only make either forward or reverse engage better, not both. So I'm wondering if my cable is stretched. Would the shift engagement act differently in the water?
