Just got a 89 johnson 140 vro ('ready to go ....hah!') and now have to spend $800 on a tune up and carb job (there are four) to get it to run

I would like to be prepared to do my own work by next spring.

Any advice on the best manual to buy? I have a clymer from the library and am not impressed. Will anyone recommend the seloc?

Thanks

Clymers are fit, for starting up my woodstove.:D

If you're mechanically inclined and are experienced working with engines and such, a Seloc will work fine. A lot of guys here however, will recemend a factory service manual. You can find those here.

You're gonna kick yourself the day you do a carb rebuild , its easy.
The hardest part is removing the carbs and re-installing on the engine again.
Watch some carb videos on youtube.

You can order carb kits right here on iBoats for less than $25 ea.
Don't be shocked if the $800 tuneup doesn't fix it.

Get the factory manual. I just got my Seloc manual yesterday and although its not bad, a factory manual will show you your engine exclusively.
