i'm having a problem with my outboard, last time i took my boat out it started running rough and sounding an alarm whenever i went over 2500rpms. it seemed to run fine under 2500 but would vibrate and even shake over 2500. could this be an overheating issue or fuel ? what about oil? need help badly!!

the alarm is constant until i back off throttle, also someone told me if it was overheating, alarm would still sound off . is this true? if it is, does this mean fuel problem?

Steady alarm can mean two things: overheat or fuel restriction. The difference is that overheat also causes the engine to go into SLOW mode, automatically dropping RPMs. Fuel restriction alarm doesn't automatically drop RPMs but will go away when RPMs are reduced by operator.

Sounds like fuel restriction. Could be anywhere from the fuel tank pick up to the carbs, including lines, connections, valves, etc.

Fuel restriction, make sure you're using 3/8th fuel line and tank vent is clear.
Try running on a 3 gal temp tank without any extra filters.
