Hi I can't decode the following:
J5RHI CNR

I know it's a Belguim made 5 hp rope start external tank, but what year? My thinking is an 81 from the I.

The serial number is B003976.

Thanks,

Shane

Id guess you are misreading the number

Perhaps J5RHLCNR. Thats the nearest I can find that might be and that is a 1982 4.5hp

Ignore the last letter which is a production sffix
The previous two are the year letters so CN makes it a 1982 model

I suspect you may have misread L as I. L would make it a long shaft model .. is it?

H means "less integral tank" (only appears when they may or may not have the integral tank)

R is rope start

5 in this instance means 4.5 hp

J obviously Johnson

Re: Model decode help required

You could be right about misreading I'll check today. Although there was a space where I placed it in my original post.

Yes it's a long shaft.

Thanks for the help, I've just bought the engine and it's a cracker! Gets my tender nicely up on the plane.

Yes it's a long shaft.

If its a long shaft then there has to be an "L" in there

There is no meaning for I (apart from 1 as a date letter) .... conclusion it is L not I

There would not normally be a space so I guess its a badly stamped L.

Thanks Vic. It was a post of yours on scuttlebutt that lead me
here.

The engine is very similar to one I had as a kid growing up in Oz, so I am happy with how to pull it apart and fix most minor problems. I got it with 2 fuel tanks for ?125 and couldn't be happier. That is until it stops!

Yours,

Shane
