I have a Johnson sea horse 18, model # FD14 B, what is the fuel to oil ratio. Also if anyone could tell me the year it was made, I think it was in the 60's

Re: Need help

Your motor is a 1960. The following was taken from the second page of the FAQ :

"1960-1964 JOHNSON/EVINRUDE/GALE - 18hp and up can run at 40:1, as they are mostly jeweled motors at this point. Anything smaller run it at 24:1.
Pre 1960 - any size, run it 24:1. If it's used for racing or high performance, double up the oil..."

Going off the info noted above, 40:1 for the mix ratio.

Hope this helps.

Re: Need help

Thank you very much, the ratio was marked on the gas tank, but the tank was stolen and I couldn't remember. I'll be sure to mark it on new tank and on motor. Again thank you

The ratio on the tank would have been 24:1

Re: Need help

As far as I know, that 40:1 ratio is not officially endorsed by any OMC or BRP publication for a 1960 FD-14.

The correct, official ratio is 24:1.

If you choose to go leaner, do so at your own risk.

Re: Need help

Thanks for clarifying for the OP, I was just going by a thread I had read.
