I am picking up a 50hp Evinrude that I'm trying to get info on.
The serial number is as follows: 50515-06963
I have learned from the first set of digits that it is a 1958 model, and the plate itself has a stamping of "50HP"
Also, from some other sites, it appears that it may be a "Starflite", but I'm not completely positive on that one as all the Starflite models I've run across dont have the manual starter cord backup, as this one has.
Can anyone explain exactly how Evinrude used their numbering sequence? I assume that the "50---" means 50hp, but how did they get 1958 from the rest of it? I assume that the "06963" would be the production number for this motor. Any takers?
Also have questons on a 1982 Ebko, but that's going in the other forum.
