Hi.
Im trying to bring to life evinrude 6hp mod no 66A66B,(i dont know the year of this model)
i bought this engin few mounths ago, and i'm trying to start this motor.
strange thisng is starter pinion.
it is made of aluminium insted of plastick.this aluminium starter when is hiting the flywheel is making noise and sometimes timing plate is wobing sideways.
in my Jo 6hp/73y this pinion is black plastick and everythin works very smooth(i mean pulling start)
I oreder a new plastick pinion as is in my Jo6hp but when i tryed to instal this pinion I notice that the new one has smaler diameter then this aluminium one, about 2 mm and new pinion touch the flywheel just to litle.
has someone seen aluminium pinion in this line of engines?

Re: starter pinion in Evinrude 6hp

I have a 1965 6HP and it uses the black plastic one #311189 that is shown in the parts catalogs from 65 through 72. Yours must be a different starter than those of other 1966 6HP motors.

Re: starter pinion in Evinrude 6hp

hm i bought this plastik one OMC 0318447 but its to small.
this alluminium is making to much sound and timing plate is wobing when i pull starter rope.
i think the best is to buy engin for parts and change recoil starter with all elements
