Always starts on 3 cyl and runs strong on 3 until engine warms, then loose 1 and sometimes 2 cyls. After rest (cool down ?) all 3 are back briefly but then gone again after short time. Pattern will repeat.
Have ruled out dirty carbs, water flooding cyls through heat exchanger, bad coils and bad powerpack and bad wireling.
That leaves me suspicious of failing 38 year old stator and or pick up coils for the CDI ignition. Will try removing both and measuring resistance cold and then after warm up in 170 deg kitchen oven.
Pickup sensor coils all show signs of having rubbed on the interior flywheel magnet ring. Each measures around 8.1 -8.3 ohms at room temp, then when heated with a hair dryer each resistance increase to around 9.7-9.9 ohms. None of the 3 appears to behave differently when warmed.
Thoughts from others please.
