Hey guys i just tried to start my motor after a month or two and it did fire but then i got the biggest kick back ever!!!!
Now when i try to pull the rope within two or three pulls it kicks back really hard.
My mate said the timing might be out????
If anyone knows the workings of a johnson 25 sea horse could you give me a yell as it runs great but i am not game to try and start it now. It is like an explosion and it hurts when it bucks.

the other quick check is to check your flywheel key....sounds like it may have sheared and allowed your flywheel to slip on the shaft, which will put your engine out of time

I vote for the flywheel key sheared or the stator severely shifted.

If the plug wires were switched it would make loud explosions from the exhaust.

Flywheel key? Ok is that a white plastic thing that goes on top of the motor and stops it spinning back? If it is that is the problem....
I found half of it at the bottom of the caseing. Will i have to get the timing done as well?

No, the flywheel key is steel and holds the flywheel in time with the crankshaft.

You really need an OEM Service Manual. It is not cheap, but will pay for itself many times over.

Wrong diagram. Find the one that includes the crankshaft.

0307480 KEY,Crankshaft

You need to remove the nut holding the flywheel onto the crankshaft and get yourself a puller and pull the flywheel, the key (or at least the half stuck in the crank) will need to be removed.
