Johnson 8hp Sailmaster Charging Questions

Just purchased a 1978 Venture of Newport 23 sailboat. It came with a Johnson 8hp Sailmaster outboard that is capable of charging the battery but is not connected. Does this system require a rectifier/regulator to insure that the battery does not over charge? If it does, does anyone know a part# or where I can find one

I suggest you search the Johnson Evinrude forum on this site. If the answer is not already there, post the question on that forum. From what I read over there
the rectifier is factory installed on the motor. GH
