I recently purchased a 1966 johnson 9.5 and it doesent seem to be turning RPM like it should. I mounted the engine on a 12 ft john boat so it should not have any problems pushing it . Right now it has a 8 2x9 i was thinking about swapping it for a 8 2x7. I would really appreciate the feed back thanks.

it runs well when im by myself but who likes to fish by yourself any way. I was planning on using the 2x7 prop when i have a passenger and gear.

The motors were sold new with an 8-1/4 X 8-1/2 aluminum three blade propeller # 0377635.

Michigan Wheel make a 7.75 X 6.5 that works #012068, but may be hard to find.

Another OMC prop #0386587 was 5 pitch 3 blade, but most are composite and not aluminum; either way they are hard to find.

The Quicksilver QA3178R is a 3 blade 8 X 7.

so the factory prop had a diameter of 8 1/2 and the pitch was 5. So if i am interpreting this correctly my prop is way off.

he said the motors were SOLD NEW with a 8.5 pitch prop, but the factory also sold 5 pitch props

there are many offerings for props , and it depends on the boat the motor is used on...which is best.

if the boat is kinda heavy for the motor, the lower pitch is better, but if the boat is very light then the higher pitch is better...

good luck
