This is a 1978 35hp Johnson Outboard. What parts do I need to get the electric starter to work?

Without more information it could be anything from the ignition switch to the starter motor and everything in between. Not to be a smart alec but you will have to follow the trouble shooting methods in your engine manual to isolate what the problem is to know what needs repaired. With nothing more than a cheap voltmeter and a short jumper wire all the tests can be performed. The starter in the picture looks as if it has been recently replaced so all it may take is some connections cleaned and tightened. You will not know until you do some systematic testing.

Well the starter motor is there and the solenoid is there . The starter switch on the front panel is missing. Cannot say about the wiring.

This diagram http://shop2.evinrude.com/Scripts/I...41\14.TIF&ilSC=29&ilIV=0&ilBR=0&ilIF=P&ilRE=8 shows all the parts in the electric starter kit. and they are listed here http://shop2.evinrude.com/Ext/PartL...&serialGroup=0&modelAssemID=34193&TF=IPLFrame

You may also want to add a battery charging kit
See http://shop2.evinrude.com/Scripts/I...41\06.TIF&ilSC=45&ilIV=0&ilBR=0&ilIF=P&ilRE=8

Sorry I didn't understand your initial question, thought you had an inoperative starter, The only thing you need is a momentary switch to connect the battery side of the solonoid to the terminal on the solonoid. I see that is about a $50 item from OMC. If this was my motor I would jury rig a $5 momentary on switch from Radio Shack into that hole.
