2 years ago, the engine locked up. finally got around to figuring out what is wrong with it. took the lower unit off, powerhead turns over. actually briefly started the powerhead.

the lower unit is locked up. does anyone know what is involved in rebuilding the lower unit? what kind of expense could be expected? would it be cheaper and better to just replace the lower unit?

probably upper drive shaft bearing failure...remove water pump and upper bearing carrier. its probably mush and has ruined the drive shaft. If so I think its junk up to you.

im planning to start the cleaning process of the boat. it doesnt look to be much to start to dissassemble the lower unit, i will check that bearing you are talking about. I will say that reverse did not work either. i almost ran over a jetskiier while out on the water one day and threw the boat in reverse from probably 35mph to avoid running them over.

Anyone have an idea of costs to expect to rebuild my lower unit?
