89 Johnson 40 hp guidance

I purchased a used bass boat that has a 89 Johnson 40hp on it. It has been sitting unused for about 7 years.

What do I need to do it to prepare it for running?

I disassembled the carbs and cleaned out the gunk. Ordered the rebuild kit for them.

I have read about the VRO system. I plan to bypass the oil system until I get it running.

Any other issue I should concern myself with prior to starting this motor?

I'm going through a similar process right now. In the top secret topic pinned to the top of the forum there are step by step procedures that have help a lot. Most of your questions can be answered in there.
