Hi I recently traded for a boat that came with a 1973 evinrude 60 hp motor The Boat and motor had been parked outside with a cover on them for approx 10 years. When i got it home i went ahead and drained the lower unit so as to put new c type oil in it. When i drained nothing but water came out of lower unit . Am I wasting time with lower unit if per say water had frozen in the lower unit with no oil. Motor is very hard to turn over of course its stuck in gear as well. I was wondering am i wasting my time or is it fixable.

Hate to say it, but probably wasting your time. If you want to take a look, remove the propeller, then the bearing carrier. If it is full of rust, too bad, so sad.

# 1 1973 does not use Type C lower unit oil. i would drop the lower, then test the power head. you can get a used lower. you can slip a hose over the water tube to test run the motor.

99.9% you lower is not worth rebuilding.
