One of my buddies just bought a new, used boat. with a 75 hp 1962 johnson on it. He is having a problem with the lower unit on the motor. He will be driving between 5-15MPH and all of the sudden he hears a bang and his boat feel like it is being hit from behind, as if he were in a bumper car.. I thought maybe it was the prop slipping so I scored a few lined in the prop hub and the prop itself. He took the boat back and gave me a call yesterday telling me it was still happening and he checked the prop and the lines still match. Does anyone know what this could be. I am thinking the clutch dog is slipping or something is going on in the gears.

It's probably the clutch dog, but check the shifter cable first.

Whaler what do you mean by check the cables? To see if they are putting the motor fully in gear?
