You would be better served with an aftermarket CMC or similar PT&T, but you may be able to find a used original. The OE units fit outside the transom brackets. If you find a serviceable one, try to get the solenoid control box with it so that you don't have to make one.
Also, your motor may have lift assist shocks that would have to be replaced to use the OE PT&T.
If you look at the 1977 "OB Accessories" section of the BRP parts Catalogs, you can find a diagram of the PT&T that will work on your motor.
