Johnson 40hp 1960 - 1965

I have Johnson 40hp with generator GJG40003M (12v 10a).
I do not know what kind of the original Voltege Regulator related to it and
what kind of the car regulator will work with this generator.

Thank you. As I undestand that is original part #.
Some tractors and old cars used generators and voltage regulator.
May be some of it is good for boat motor?

If you're going to put it back in the junction box, size is critical and I would suspect none but the original is going to fit properly. It's a pretty tight fit in that box.

I went through this recently with my 1963 Johnson and found that the old Delco Remys from like the mid fiftys to early 60s GMs are identical or very close.I found one that was listed for a 57 Chevy Belair and it looked identical even in the mounting holes.Although I found a original used one I am sure you can find a older GM that will work if you cannot find the correct one..I would have went this route but found a cheap used original.GM I believe went to alternators around 1963 if my memory serves me correctly...
