TJ40ELESR after a recent carb rebuild i checked to see what the initial low speed carb setting should be, the seloc manual sasays 2 1/2 turn out unless it's a 40RW(whatever RW is)then it would be 3 1/2. Clymer says 1 3/4 turn out, and directions in carb kit say 1 turn out.I'm a little confused. This carb has the low speed adj. needle near rear of carb, not the one in front.
thanks Tim

Re: 40 Johnson initial low speed setting?

I have found that the settings in the manual are starting points. I would pick a starting point and if I can get it started I will adjust from there. Keep in mind that it takes ten to fifteen seconds for it to respond. It is also best to set your idle on the water instead of muffs. I know this is probably not the answer that you want but it is what I do. Bear in mind that I am not a pro and there are a lot of guys that are dealers on here and a bunch of dang good backyard mechanics.
